Reliable MANET

This technology creates and maintains a reliable network which can adapt to disruptive conditions such as node mobility, unpredictable radio links, and channel interference.

Thin Layer for Maintaining Robustness

Thin Layer provides high reliability by adapting to different degrees of packet loss. Thin Layer uses a cross-layer approach to turn on and off the appropriate diversity mechanisms when network conditions deteriorate. The diversity mechanisms include multi-path routing, temporal diversity using network coding, and spectrum diversity using multi-channel schemes. The technology scales back the diversity to conserve network resources when the operating conditions of the network returns back to normal.

Optimal Network Reconfiguration

The reactive planning and management technology enhances the management of network resources in MANETs where various communication resources and radio waveforms have to be configured. The technology employs concurrent optimization searches, mission planning information, and network simulators to quickly identify a good set of configuration parameters to improve the required operating conditions. Network management, such as that of JTRS Enterprise Domain will require such automated management capability to handle the large number of heterogeneous network resources.

Fault Management and Self Healing for Dependable MANET

The fault management component is capable of detecting soft and hard network failures. Enabling effective fault management in MANETs to guide the self healing mechanisms can tremendously improve the reliability and performance of network-centric systems. Our self-healing mechanisms introduce robust resilience into the management of MANET. The novelty in the technology includes effective fault detection, accurate fault identification, comprehensive network healing mechanisms, and a proactive healing process engine that identifies trends leading to a failure ahead of time.
