Overview

Sense-and-Avoid is the ability of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) to "sense" and "avoid" other aircraft, including airplanes, rotorcraft, gliders, balloons, blimps, and parachutes.

The origin of the term Sense-and-Avoid can be traced to the Federal Aviation Administration's regulations governing the general operation of aircraft in the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS). The rule states: "When weather conditions permit, regardless of whether an operation is conducted under instrument flight rules or visual flight rules, vigilance shall be maintained by each person operating an aircraft so as to see and avoid other aircraft."

UtopiaCompression's Sense-and-Avoid solution provides an inexpensive, low size, lightweight, and energy efficient package for UAS to navigate in the presence of cooperative or non-cooperative aircraft. Our SAA solutions are critical for manned and unmanned aircraft to share airspace in military and civilian theaters.
